December 2024 saw the launch of another major art project curated by the Regeneration Art Project: REGENERATION ART SPACE.
The Art Project is a bold new venture inspired and instigated by art connoisseur and humanitarian, Lola Tillyaeva. Launched in September 2024 with a mission to raise the profile of talented young artists from Uzbekistan, the Regeneration Art Project provides exhibition spaces, discussion platforms, masterclasses and more for aspiring creatives who may otherwise lack the lift and exposure they need to progress as artists. By bringing together a broad spectrum of next-generation artists as well as leading art experts and industry specialists, the Project offers these gifted young people a vital steppingstone on their creative careers.
Joining forces with Tashkent City Mall, the Regeneration team put together a super new exhibition space on the Mall’s prestigious third floor. Spanning 600 square metres, the REGENERATION ART SPACE will host a year-long rotating exhibition that will feature the work of young artists from all over the country, showcasing their diverse talents across various artistic directions and spotlighting new trends and emerging ideas in Uzbekistan’s contemporary art scene.
Versatile and spacious, the Tashkent City Mall is a superb new venue in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent. Home to top quality restaurants and shops, the Mall is readily accessible and ideally suited to displaying installations as well as wall paintings.
Throughout 2025, exhibitions at the new REGENERATION ART SPACE will rotate on a three-monthly basis, giving many up-and-coming young artists the chance to show, discuss and sell their work. The exhibitions will include unique pieces by artists from different regions and reflect the rich diversity of contemporary Uzbek art today.
In keeping with the ideals of both the Human Kind Institute and the Regeneration Art Project, SPACE is open to all, and admission is free of charge. REGENERATION ART SPACE also promotes initiatives aimed at increasing public interaction with art, such as art walks with art historians and hands-on masterclasses for children on drawing and crafts.
REGENERATION ART SPACE kicked off with an ambitious display of work from 43 young talents from all across Uzbekistan. This initial exhibition spotlights paintings, photographs, installations, batik, graphics and ceramics to present a varied cross-section of the country’s modern art scene.
And it’s proving very popular! In just 6 short weeks since it opened, SPACE has welcomed 170,000 visitors and sold over 10 artworks, including installations, batik and a photograph as well as several paintings.
The Grand Opening brought together a diverse and inspiring audience. Guests included art historians, gallerists, designers, embassy representatives, artists from various disciplines, and media representatives, as well as fashion and interior designers.
The second exhibition starts in March 2025 and promises to be just as vibrant. For three months, SPACE will mainly shine a light on young creatives from one of Uzbekistan’s forgotten corners – Karakalpakstan, a region in northwestern Uzbekistan that includes part of the Aral Sea, once the fourth largest freshwater lake in the world but now shrunk by an astonishing 90%. This is an area struggling with major environmental challenges such as desertification and salination, and the young people here can really benefit from opportunities such as SPACE.
The REGENERATION ART SPACE curators have also put out an Open Call to young creatives throughout the country in a bid to attract a broad spectrum of talented artists and designers. This will create an inclusive platform for dialogue, exchange and growth that will not only enrich the public’s engagement with art but also provide much-needed stimulus to local budding artists.
Art walks with art historians are organised at the exhibition every week to open up the fascinating world of Uzbekistan’s contemporary art to the general public. During these walks, experts talk about the featured artists and their works, as well as giving interesting facts and professional views on art. The exhibition also features a cosy reading area where visitors can peruse magazines and books dedicated to art, design and culture.
REGENERATION ART SPACE is more than just an inspiring display arena. It has an educational mission, too. Through hosting discussion panels, masterclasses and bringing together art specialists from across the board, SPACE hopes to nurture aspiring artists, encouraging them to explore diverse genres, directions and mediums not just in the national art scene but internationally, too. True to its name, REGENERATION ART SPACE is set to open new horizons for a new generation of creative growth.
